Standard LED Lighting

Standard LED Lighting

Introduction:

This article is for our Standard LED Lighting package ONLY. Our integrated Indigo-CLEAN™ Continuous Disinfection Lighting information can be found HERE. Indigo-CLEAN is clinically proven to reduce SSI's by 73% as well as eliminating 94% of SARS-CoV-2!
SLD Technology provides state-of-the-art LED Lighting in our AirFRAME®, LEDiffuser®, and uLED® products. This is achieved by utilizing the latest in commercial-grade LED light boards in fixed lengths of 11.00” and 22.00” (1’ and 2’ NOMINAL). These light boards are powered by LED Drivers much like older florescent lights were powered by Ballasts. We interconnect these light boards to form longer linear strip lighting in our uLED products as well as array lighting in our AirFRAME and LEDiffuser products to form a complete UL Listed surgical suite lighting fixture.

Features:

Power:

Our AirFRAME, LEDiffuser, and uLED lighting products are variable voltage capable of being powered by any voltage from 120-volts to 277-volts at either 50 or 60Hz. This means we are flexible worldwide. In the US we are compatible with 120 or 277v, in Canada with 120v, as well as in the EU and Australia with 240v! Internal wiring colors can be selected to meet your country and/or voltage standards.

The nominal power draw is about 6.3 Watts per nominal foot of LED light*. Project-specific wattage draws will be provided in submittals.

While the LED Drivers are rated up to 75 watts, they are individually programmed to support the amount of light powered by that particular internal driver circuit and thus only pull as much power as the light boards pull. The drivers are capable of supporting up to 12 nominal feet of light; however, we load balance the lights between the required number of drivers for a particular switching/dimming circuit. (For example if there is 16 nominal feet of light within an array, the internal circuiting would be split with 8 feet powered by each driver rather than one with 12 feet and one with 4 feet)*.

*Inrush Current:

For circuit sizing, especially when choosing/sizing battery inverters, inrush current should be considered. The below chart from will help with determining Inrush requirements:

For worst-case sizing, take the total number of drivers multiplied by 75 Watts to determine circuit sizing.

Switching / Dimming:

Controls and control wiring including on, off and dimming controls are provided by Others
Our standard (non-Indigo-CLEAN™) lighting utilizes standard current sourcing 0-10V dimming protocols compatible with a wide variety of commercial 0-10V LED dimmers, lighting control systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS). Lights dim to 1% via 0-10v and power is cut to the fixtures to turn them off.

Within the provided external 24x12x4" (609.60x304.80x101.60mm) electrical enclosures are a series of terminal blocks for connecting to house power and controls:

Some enclosures include multiple circuits. Reference submittals and electrical schematics.

Indigo-CLEAN is fundamentally different in switching / dimming. Please see Indigo-CLEAN articles for more information.

Control Circuits:

LEDiffuser and uLED products are provided as off-the-shelf units circuited as one per unit. Units can be daisy-chained together to form single or multiple control zones or lighting circuits as in other off-the-shelf lighting components.

AirFRAME products on the other hand are pre-wired to form specific control zones / lighting circuits. They are customizable; however, as a standard, we provide two circuits labeled as "Interior" and "Perimeter". These consist of the outside "ring" of AirFRAME array lights (shown in green below) as the "perimeter" and the rest of the array lights (shown in yellow) as "interior".

Note: "Perimeter" not to be confused with exterior hard-lid lighting.

This can be customized though during the Submittal phase of the project to account for Green lighting, emergency power zones, or custom switching such as left, center, right or head / foot.

Mounting Electrical Enclosures:

Pre-attached to AirFRAME:

In some cases, the 24x12x4" (609.60x304.80x101.60mm) electrical enclosures will be pre-attached to the outside wall of the AirFRAME. In this case, no extra mounting is needed outside of bringing service conduit to the enclosures, by Others.

Conduit Whips:

In many cases, electrical enclosures will ship loose with pre-attached flexible conduit "whips". In this case, the enclosure must be field-mounted, by Others and the conduit whip connections made to the AirFRAME, by Others typically the installing contractor or electrical contractor.

Conduit whips must be connected to AirFRAME 4x4x2" (101.60x101.60x50.80mm) j-boxes in the field, by Others:

Maintenance:

120~277V
CAUTION: Risk of Fire or Electrical Shock
WARNING: Disconnect power before installing or servicing.

Changing LED Light Boards:

LED Light boards are accessible room-side by removing the snap-in lighting lens. Using a 90-degree hook tool or plastic pry tool, pull the lens from the surface and pull down to remove lens:

Once the lens is removed, access to the LED light boards is available. To change a light board, press in on the push-in connector release tab with a pointy tool like a small screwdriver or ballpoint pen and pull gently on wire to release. Remove retaining screws to release the LED light board from the lighting strut. The replacement light board will fit in the old board's place. Replace screws. Press wires in to push-in terminals matching previous wire color locations. Wires will automatically seat in new terminal by pressing them in. Snap light lens back into place.

Changing LED Drivers:

LED drivers are factory programmed for the specific lighting circuit they power. Do not change with an off-the-shelf component. Damage to lighting circuit will occur. Contact SLD Technology for replacement components. support@sldus.com or Submit a Ticket

LED Drivers are located within 24x12x4" (609.60x304.80x101.60mm) electrical enclosures usually located above ceiling within the room in the interstitial space. The US National Electrical Code requires an access hatch in the ceiling near these enclosures so access should be available.
  1. Within the enclosure, the drivers are labeled per the lights they serve
  2. Note the wire color and positions. Wire colors do not always match terminal colors
  3. Disconnect wires by pressing in on the release button on the push-in connector while pulling gently on wire
  4. Remove and save retaining screw
  5. Place new driver in space noting orientation and screw into place.
  6. Press wires in to the correct terminals on new driver
Project-specific Electrical Schematics are available by emailing support@sldus.com with the associated SLD project number.
